Background
Rx4Prevention combines cutting-edge medicine with smart health management: ideally, disease is prevented, not treated. A key to preventing disease is facilitating an individual’s acquisition of immunity, with vaccines as the forefront of this healthcare strategy.
Prevention of disease through vaccination:
- Provides the ideal economic healthcare strategy;
- Prevents mortality (especially for geriatric clients);
- Promotes a high-quality of life.
Although the prevalence of pediatric vaccination approaches healthcare goals, the Center for Disease Control estimates that less than 50 percent of vaccines are completed for adults. Adults may not seek vaccines due to:
- Limited medical staff resources to screen patients’ vaccination needs;
- Incomplete awareness of the CDC's changing recommendations for vaccines;
- Uncertainties about safety, availability, or pain associated with vaccines;
- Apathy or a lack of resources to obtain vaccines;
- Appropriate follow-up when a series of vaccines is needed.
Given this background, Rx4Prevention was launched in 2014 as a comprehensive, mobile vaccine service to provide a seamless, economical and efficient healthcare solution.
Our history
Philip Ostrem, Founder
Philip Ostrem, RPh, is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and has been a pharmacist for nearly 40 years. During his career, he developed a special interest in healthcare for the elderly. While working as a geriatric consulting pharmacist, he became aware that many clients in senior care facilities lack recommended vaccines.
Combining innovation with a sincere desire to protect the elderly from preventable disease, he created a mobile vaccine business, Rx4Prevention, in 2014.
By screening and administering vaccines, Rx4Prevention eliminates these tasks from an already-busy nursing staff and relieves families from the responsibility of transporting loved ones to vaccine sites, such as retail pharmacies or clinics.
Rx4Prevention also provides mobile vaccine services to private businesses, such as banks, factories, and construction groups.
